How To Wake Up To A Better Day
So every Sunday I say to myself that I am going to finally get on top of my to do list and everything that needs to get done in life and it seems to always just blow up in my face by the time Monday morning rolls around. Life happens and plans change and I used to get so behind, but I've come up with a few tips and tricks to help manage my day to day routine and keep on top of my house AND life a little bit better!
The key to my "success" lies in preparing for the day the night BEFORE. I always used to wait until the day of to start my to-do list, and then if anything popped up unexpected I was totally thrown off and then would basically give up on my to-do list. Starting the night before with a few basic things has really helped me to stay on top of everything.
Tip 1: Straighten Up- After my daughter goes to bed I take about 15-30 minutes (depending on the mess) to straighten up the entire house. I even set a timer sometimes because it seems to help me stick to the task at hand and not get distracted. I always try to finish before the timer is up haha! And always finish in enough time to have 2-3 hours to relax before I go to bed myself. This includes picking up toys, loading the dishwasher, putting laundry away etc. I always try to make sure every sink in the house is wiped clean as well. Something about waking up to clean, shiny sinks just makes you feel good. Once all that is done I quickly run the vacuum over all the main living area floors so that way it feels fresh and clean for the night and the next morning when we wake up (this is easy since we are temporarily living in an apt while we build our home). Something about those vacuum lines just makes me SOO HAPPY! (Does anyone else get mad when their lines get messed up?) One other thing I do at night is start the dishwasher, this way when we wake up we have all our dishes cleaned for the day and I can unload it between flipping pancakes.
Tip 2: Set the Coffee Pot- So this is something I do most nights before bed. I sometimes forget and I always kick myself in the morning when I'm groggily trying to make my coffee. Setting the coffee pot the night before just marks one thing off your morning to do list and its nice to wake up to that freshly brewed coffee scent!
Tip 3: Make Your To-Do List- I find its so helpful for me to make my to-do list the night before. That way I'm not doing it in a rush in the morning where I'm more likely to forget some of the small tasks I need to accomplish for the day. That way when I wake up, while drinking my coffee, I can go over my list for the day and determine the most effective plan to get it all done!
Tip 4: Set out your Outfit- So now that I am older and a parent myself, I totally understand why our parents wanted us to set out our clothes the night before. It makes the morning SO much easier! Its such a small thing, but can really make such a big difference. I set out my outfit and my daughter's so we can get out the door and start our day a little quicker rather than running around the house looking for something for us to wear. On the days Im not shooting for the blog, you can probably find me in my workout clothes. Running around with a 2 year old all day requires comfort and things that can get dirty!
Tip 5: Put your things by the Door- I know this sounds a little silly, but its so helpful in those morning rushing hours to know you can grab your bag and go and not have to worry about if you have everything you need or not! This is especially helpful for us moms who need quite a few more things than your average joe. I like to make sure I have our snacks, diapers, wipes, keys, and water bottles along with our shoes right by the door so we aren't looking for everything at the last minute especially if we are running late (which is most of the time). It streamlines our morning routine and I feel confident leaving and knowing I'm not forgetting anything we may need while gone.
So I know none if this stuff is groundbreaking, its all very easy things some people might already be doing, but I know like myself its hard to always stick to the plan and there are nights where I don't do all of this and I instantly regret it in the morning. Having a few key things you can stick with at night can really help to start your day off right the next morning!
